I love a beautiful family portrait. I think having photographs where everyone is together, connected, and looking at the camera is incredibly important.

But I don’t want that to be the only thing we create.

During your session, I’ll gently direct you into flattering light and natural positions,

make subtle adjustments when needed, and create those timeless portraits

you’ll want to frame and keep for years.

And then we move.

You might walk together, talk, play, cuddle, explore, tease each other,

or simply interact the way you naturally do.

Those moments often become some of my favorite images—

the photographs that reveal personality, relationships, and the

little things you may not even realize you’ll miss someday.

I want you to leave with both: beautifully composed portraits and photographs filled with genuine connection.

More Than a Pretty Location

I’m thoughtful about where I photograph because the setting, light, and composition all matter.

But the location is never the whole photograph.

What I care about most is what’s happening between the people in the frame.

I’m looking for personality, connection, expression, humor, tenderness, and the

small, fleeting things that make your family unmistakably yours.

That’s why I often photograph closer—so the people, expressions, and relationships stay at the center of the image.

I’m looking for the photograph that makes you feel something.

What a Family Session With Me Is Really Like

You won’t spend your entire session standing still and being told to say “cheese.”

That simply isn’t how I photograph families.

I’ll give you enough direction so you never have to wonder what you’re supposed to be doing,

while still leaving room for the session to unfold naturally.

We’ll move around, change combinations, let the kids take a little break when they need one,

and work with whatever personalities show up that day.

Some photographs will be thoughtfully directed. Others will emerge from the moments in between.

It’s that combination that gives a gallery depth and variety—and allows it to feel both artful and authentic.

My goal is never to make your family look like someone else’s.

It is to create photographs that are beautifully composed and flattering while

still leaving room for real expression, movement, affection, humor, and personality.

Your Kids Can Be Themselves

One of the most common things parents worry about before a session is whether their children will cooperate.

They do not need to be perfect.

I’ve spent more than 18 years photographing families and children of all ages—

from newborns and energetic toddlers to shy children, teenagers,

and adults who would rather be almost anywhere than in front of a camera.

I don’t expect young children to stand still for long periods of time.

I don’t expect siblings to suddenly stop acting like siblings.

And I certainly don’t expect every person to arrive excited about having their photograph taken.

I adjust.

Sometimes that means moving quickly.

Sometimes it means giving a child a little space.

Sometimes we change what we’re doing completely.

The most beautiful sessions happen when we stop trying to manufacture perfection

and allow your family to simply be itself.

Choosing the Right Marin Location

The location matters, but the light matters even more.

I photograph families throughout Marin County and help each client choose a setting

that works beautifully for the look they love, the needs of their family,

and—most importantly—the quality of the light.

Most outdoor sessions are scheduled to begin approximately 1½ to 2 hours before sunset,

depending on the location.

This timing gives us the soft, even, flattering light you see throughout my portfolio and

allows me to create luminous photographs without asking children to stay unnaturally still.

I know that timing doesn’t work for every family—especially with babies and young children—

so morning sessions are available when needed.

Because every location holds light differently,

the exact session time is chosen specifically for where we’ll be photographing.

We’ll select the location together based on the season, the time of day,

your children’s ages, the look you’re drawn to, and

what will create the most beautiful and comfortable experience for your family.

Planning Your Family Photography Session

You do not have to figure everything out yourself.

Approximately two weeks before your session, we’ll have a planning meeting to talk through the details.

We’ll discuss your family, your children’s personalities, who will be photographed,

what matters most to you, and the kinds of images you’re hoping to create.

We’ll also talk about location, timing, clothing, family dynamics,

and anything else that will help the session feel easy and thoughtfully planned.

I’ll guide you through the decisions so that everything works together visually

without feeling overly coordinated or contrived.

The planning matters because it allows the actual session to feel relaxed.

By the time we meet, I want you to feel that you can simply show up,

trust the process, and enjoy being with your family.
