I believe a family gallery should have both.


The beautifully composed portrait where everyone looks incredible and you can actually see everyone's face.

And the photograph two minutes later when the kids forget about the camera, someone starts laughing,

I gently direct when direction helps—using flattering light, composition and positioning—

I've been photographing people professionally since 2008, and one of the most important things I've learned is how to read the person in front of me—when to give direction, when to make someone laugh and when to stop talking and let the moment unfold.
